Thanks for stopping by my corner of the internet for my second installment of My Favorite Five Friday!
This week I have really been trying.
This week the Mind Monsters have also really been trying to do their best to counteract all my hard work and positive progress. It’s been a week of heartbreak, transition, and–surprisingly–unbridled strength. Long story short (don’t worry, Reader, details are coming in my Self Reflection Sunday post if you’re curious), I found myself starting a new life from the ground up. I also found that I was developing insomnia… I stayed up until the wee hours of the night practically every night this week assembling furniture from Walmart and listening to Jane Eyre on Audible. In the midst of this chaos and in order to cope with the lack of sleep (and coffee… I JUST got a coffee pot!), here’s what brought me an extra dose of sunshine:
“Strawberry Jam” Lipstick
For me, lipstick is the most essential component out of the contents in my make-up bag. If I’m feeling especially “bleh”, a bright and bold lip color can completely transform my appearance and give me that needed confidence boost. I was introduced to the Tart Peach at a flea market here in Nashville. I was immediately drawn to the vibrant Barbie-Girl pinks–my favorite color– and started testing all sorts of shades. What I noticed immediately about this product was that it went on smoothly and didn’t seem to dry out my lips like drugstore lipsticks I had previously been using. I had the pleasure of meeting the seller, Jordan, and she told me that her lipsticks are all handmade one by one using a combination of under 20 natural ingredients. That’s why it felt so different! It also makes my heart happy to know that Jordan’s business began with a blog and a do-it-yourself lip balm kit just a little over a year ago! I love supporting badass creative women and her products are rad as hell, so needless to say, I will definitely be browsing her online store soon for more!
“Love Heals” Baseball Cap
First of all, I am obsessed with this organization! Local to Nashville, TN, Thistle Farms was founded by Becca Stevens– an author, entrepreneur and priest.
“Thistle Farms’ mission is to HEAL, EMPOWER, AND EMPLOY women survivors of trafficking, prostitution, and addiction. We do this by providing safe and supportive housing, the opportunity for economic independence, and a strong community of advocates and partners.”
Thistle Farms makes tons of homemade products that will give you the warm and fuzzies: soaps, lotions, candles, oils, perfume, decor, apparel– you name it! They also have a beautiful (and delicious!) café attached to their storefront. Last month when my mom came into town from Florida, we visited the café for the first time and treated ourselves to a decadent Afternoon Tea. It was truly a delightful experience and one you should definitely add to your Nashville Bucket List– the staff is as friendly as can be and the food was to die for. After stuffing ourselves silly, we ventured into the shop. As soon as my eyes catch this grey “Love Heals” baseball cap, I was smitten. It’s adjustable so you can size it to your comfort level, it matches everything, and I feel so honored to advertise this heartfelt mission every time I wear it. Check out Thistle Farms! As a self-care advocate, survivor of sexual abuse myself, and proud feminist, I wholeheartedly stand behind this incredible cause. Shop, donate, volunteer–there are many ways to support!
Lavender Scented Satin Sleep Mask
Two words: Lavender. Scented. I got this sleep mask in my August TheraBox package and I have absolutely looked forward to putting it on every single night. I didn’t realize just how much a difference it makes to have complete darkness when I sleep. Not to mention, that sweet lavender aroma is subtle enough to not overwhelm my nostrils, but potent enough to send “Go the hell to sleep” signals to my wired brain. And if you needed more of a reason to add this handy sleep helper to your nightly routine– just look at it! It’s so dang cute! You can purchase it at the Happy Shoppe website.
“Turndown” Herbal Pillow
Like I said earlier, sleep has become more and more precious… and less and less frequent for me as of late. Desperate for a solution, I hopped back on Meadow Sense’s online store and found their “Turndown Herbal Pillow“. Discreet enough to place inside your pillowcase, the “Turndown” has helped me tremendously when I finally hit the hay. Even those stubborn, late-night racing thoughts don’t stand a chance against the calming effects of the Chamomile Flowers, Lavender Buds, Lemon Balm Leaves, Rose Petals, Hops, and Essential Oils (Roman Chamomile, Lavender) packed into this little pouch. Trust me– if it can help me sleep, it’s totally worth the purchase! P.S. Did you know you get a $5.00 coupon code just for becoming a Meadow Member?
Essential Oil Diffuser
I got my URPOWER Diffuser off of Amazon a couple of weeks ago and it has been ESSENTIAL to helping me sleep, especially throughout this week of insanity. It’s super easy to use and I can put virtually any brand, any scent of essential oils I please in there as long as I mix it with 100 ml of water. But what’s so cool about this particular diffuser? It has an LED nightlight function and a timer! I set it to rainbow and put the timer on for 6 hours, hop in bed, and suddenly I feel like I’ve been transported my own private spa.
